Many clients want to leave a legacy, not just save for a comfortable retirement.

The father of our country crafted a finely detailed and surprisingly personal will to protect his family and his legacy. Follow in his footsteps, by keeping these three principles in mind: communication, clarity and customization.

If you run the odds on any procedure you perform, drug you prescribe, or diagnosis you make, there will be a statistically predictable number of bad outcomes and consequently, a malpractice suit. This has nothing to do with the doctor personally and everything to do with imperfect nature of medicine.

As our children with disabilities grow older, and we ourselves grow older, the future can seem daunting. The future can be overwhelming. Taking steps to plan for the future can seem way too complicated, especially when you don’t know where to start.

The transition to retirement means different things to different people, as does the actual age in which people turn the page to a new chapter in their life. As a small business owner, you should be thinking about your succession plan. A succession plan—or exit plan—is the strategic transferring of management roles or ownership of the company to others, whether it be a family member, an employee or an outside party.

Are you the type of person who signs their will, sticks it in a drawer and never looks at it again? Or are you constantly updating and making small changes to your will, based on which one of your grandchildren has fallen out of favor?

During retirement or before, you probably did all the financial planning along with the legal paperwork. Have you also thought about personal choices as you age and the options ahead?
