Our firm has the knowledge and the experience to help individuals and their families review and consider both Medicaid and VA Pension benefits (including eligibility for either one or both) as a option for financing long term care and the legal planning that can occur to avoid the financial devastation caused by a need for long term care.
Medicaid is an option available to aid in paying for long term care, specifically care provided in a nursing home or a skilled nursing facility, for both single and married individuals. Medicaid is a federal program, administered through the individual states, and, as such, is financed jointly between the Federal Government and the individual states. Medicaid provides medical and care assistance to individuals who have limited means, including minimal income and/or assets, due to their age (65 or older), disability, or blindness. Medicaid is the single largest payer of nursing home care in the United States. Since Medicaid is administered through the individual states, the eligibility rules can and do vary from state to state. There are, however, federally imposed standards and rules, which each state must follow in setting its own eligibility for benefits.
